Apple Crumble

Cooking time:
30-45 minutes
Preparation time:
15-30 minutes
  • 900g Bramley apples
  • 50g soft brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground mixed spice
  • 2 tablespoons of orange juice
    For the crumble:
  • 100g plain flour
  • 75g wholemeal flour
  • 75g Stork tub
  • 50g Demerara sugar
  • Preheat the oven to 180C/Gas Mark 4
  • Peel the apples, cut in half, core and slice.
  • Cook them in a saucepan with the orange juice, mixed spice and brown sugar until soft.
  • Pour the cooked apples into a 1 litre Pyrex glass pie dish and spread them out evenly.
  • Next make the crumble: Stir the two kinds of flour together in a bowl. Cut the Stork into small pieces and add it to the flour.
  • Rub the Stork into the flours with your fingertips. Carry on until you have an even, crumbly mixture, then mix in the sugar.
  • Spoon the crumble over the apples in the pie dish and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  • Serve hot with cream or ice-cream.
